-When we look up, we're really looking out-

A friend of mine suggested this a couple years ago, minding the Earth's position in the universe rather than our position on the Earth- it has stuck with me ever since. So then, when we must grow up, must we grow out? The change in perspective thoroughly warps the connotation, not necessarily for the worse. I think, in fact, for the better. Where "growing up" usually insinuates some measure of discomfort, bearable for remaining rigidly necessary to getting to a better place, "growing out" (of) gets at a realization that you are no longer comfortable in your relationship, situation or sweater and thus become set on bettering things- no second-guessing. Subtle, but I do think growing out is accompanied by a certain peace that is more complicated in growing up. More later.

Tip-Toes

I've told people
to grow up before,
(of love,
of care
of resignation),
but never
did I have to
stand on my toes
as I did with you,
eye to eye
not soul to soul-
one turning away
before my heels
could touch the ground.

For something
so delicate
you'd think
it would
break
under
every
emotion
we're
hoping and
hating and
crying and
waiting and
saying
we're
stronger
for
breaking
creating
a thought
then
unslating
it
writing back
down again
this
will
get better
so
eyes closed,
half open
I
can't
decide
close them,
then open
still
bending
not
breaking.

Still Life (Clementine)

flower piece

this one is a little more design-natured than things I usually do, but it was fun :) acrylic with applied fake flowers

All The Tangerines

-this is a song rather than a poem, but I figured I'd put the words up anyway-

A heart, like money, is just no good to lose
I wrote you some words, but you were unenthused
and all of the tangerines are bruised,
but they're just fruit and you're just you

I painted you flowers because you knew me well
(tell me everything about yourself)
You taught me to dance and tricked me out of my shell
(they make it look harder in the movies)
then again sure, I tricked you too
but you're just you, and I'm not bruised

You may be wonderful
and I may find you magnificent
but then again, you're just you

Winters, like willows, over us loom
(I hope it gets better when it rains)
You told me to grow and I told you to bloom
(that always happens in the movies)
You know I love you when I give you room,
room for you just you

You may be wonderful
and I may find you magnificent
but then again, you're just you and I'm not bruised

You may be marvelous
I may find you exceptional
but then again, you're just you
I'm not bruised

Steady

I think
of what
I
might
accomplish
with a
steady
hand,
but
all
the right
things
(coffee,
you,
talking)
make me
tremble.
I
don't mind.

Home V

Home like a vase
like stained glass
shards, hands,
Red- Blue- Yellow-
hands, machines,
scarred hands machines,
produce secondary colors
and art,
Home-art,
Blood because it's heroic
and pain for the bleeding
and shaking
because it's important.

Skyline 100s

Skyline 100s,
moved on from Camels
and it's in my hair,
socks & periphery--
Breathe you in,
Smoke and smiles
and living memories- present.

Casings

What if our being
is the casing of an idea-
me, you,
combine to one
but we like two
so I think you,
singularly,
you think me
and don't intertwine,
just be,
and we're alright-
you and me,
alright
alright
alright

"Stay Connected"

It's interesting how when you're about to sign onto facebook there's a little phone with the facebook "f" on it that says "Stay Connected" - when it seems to mean "Get Detached". Just interesting

"You can be just as faithful to a place or a thing as you can to a person. A place can really make your heart skip a beat, especially if you have to take a plane to get there."
